American Groundwork

About American Groundwork

A town called Freedom deserves yards that look chosen rather than left to chance. Freedom is a small Waldo County place of hills, stone walls and winding back roads, with an old mill standing beside the stream in the village and Sandy Pond tucked among the woods. American Groundwork cares for lawns here, and its name points to where the work begins — right at ground level: mowing at the proper height, trimming close along fences and walkways, clearing out whatever winter left behind. In May, when apple blossoms open along the roadsides and mud season finally dries out, a freshly cut yard feels like the year beginning for real. It becomes the kind of lawn you notice once, then stop noticing, because it always looks that way.
