About Dubois Contracting

US Route 1 begins in Fort Kent, and so does a good deal of weather. Dubois Contracting plows here through the long half of the year, when the St. John runs under ice and the banks along the river road climb past the mirrors. The work starts in the dark — drives opened before the first alarm goes off, a turnaround pushed wide enough to back a truck into, the mailbox left standing. Storms in this country do not come and go; they dig in for a day and a half, and a route becomes something you run twice. There is a particular pride in a dooryard scraped down clean while the rest of the road is still white.
