About Tolmanco

Embden Pond is so clear that on a still July morning you can count the stones on its bottom from the end of a dock. Tolmanco mows and tends lawns in Embden, the Somerset County town that sits between that glassy water and a long reach of the Kennebec River. Days begin with mist peeling off the river and dew heavy on the grass, and before the sun is high the first yard of the day lies level and green. Centuries-old carvings still mark the ledges along the Kennebec here; a fresh-mown Embden lawn is a humbler signature, but it is written with the same patience. Trim runs tight around the mailbox post, the path is swept, and the green rolls unbroken toward the water.
