There is a particular hour in a snowstorm — somewhere past midnight, everything muffled, the streetlights hazy over Eliot's back lanes — when the plows are the only thing moving. Seacoast Handyman is out in that hour, opening driveways, clearing the steps and the path from the door to the car, and sanding wherever the walk has turned to glass. Small jobs, these, but they are the ones that decide whether a morning goes easily or badly. A cleared entry, a driveway with room to back out, grit down ahead of the freeze: that is the whole ambition. One storm after another, straight through the winter.
