Late March in Durham: the ice on Runaround Pond goes gray, the pond road softens, and the maples along the stone walls start to look alive again. H&T Arborist reads trees in that season — a crown checked for die-back, a root flare uncovered and looked over, the question of what a tree needs asked before the question of whether it comes down. Pruning is the heart of the work: crossed and dead limbs taken out, a young shade tree given the structure it will carry, a canopy opened so grass returns underneath. When a tree is past helping, removal happens in measured pieces and the yard is left with room to breathe. Durham's back roads run toward Lisbon, Pownal, Freeport and Brunswick, and the work follows them.
