Evening comes down the long hill roads of Dixmont slowly — the hayfields cool first, then the dooryards, then the small squares of lawn holding on around the farmhouses. Dillion's lawncare works into that hour when the heat lets go and grass cuts cleanest: mowing, trimming the fence lines, edging drives, tidying the beds. Twice a year the bigger jobs come around, with winter's mess raked out in spring and the entire leaf fall moved off in October.
