From the first thin green of May to the last cut before hard frost, the work is mowing, trimming, edging, and hauling off what spring and autumn leave scattered across a peninsula. A lawn out on Hathorn Point takes salt air and wind all summer and still has to look like somebody loves it. Come evening, when the mower shuts off and the river goes flat and silver, a clean-cut yard above that water is a sight worth the whole day's work.
