Cornish sits where the Ossipee River pours into the Saco, a village of white clapboard and antique shops with the foothills of the White Mountains rising blue to the northwest. Cornish Lawns keeps yards cut and tidy throughout this river town, along the village streets and up on the surrounding hillsides. High summer is the time to see it: canoes drifting the Saco under a hot July sky, Main Street drowsy in the afternoon heat, and a freshly mowed lawn breathing that cool green scent into the air. Each yard gets an even cut and a trimmed border, the kind of finish that makes an old Cape look rested. When the orchards around town hang heavy in fall, the grass beneath the trees is still short and neat.
