By mid-October the maples out the Route 43 side of Corinna have gone the color of woodsmoke and apples, and the lawns underneath disappear a little more with every windy afternoon. The Casual Gardener answers with rakes and blowers — leaf cleanups, a last low cut, beds cut back and mulched for the cold, walkways swept clear of whatever came down overnight. Through the growing months it is steady mowing, trimming around posts and gardens, and an edge that keeps the flower beds from wandering out into the grass. There is a particular pleasure in handing a yard back in November looking swept and ready to sleep. Corinna keeps the schedule full, with stops in St. Albans, Hartland, Palmyra and Newport.
