By September the light over Clinton turns the color of standing corn, and fair week fills the town with trucks and animals and dust. Goldsmith's Landscaping is mowing straight through it — regular cuts, string trimming, edged walks and drives, and cleanup work as the season tips over. A lawn cut in that slant light shows every stripe, which is reason enough to run the passes true. Then October arrives, and the leaves, and the last cut of the year taken a little short. The ground rests; the work picks up again as soon as the frost lets go.
