About Pierce Works LLC

At three in the morning the road through Weeks Mills is a blue tunnel and nothing moves but the plow. Pierce Works LLC runs China's driveways and lots all winter — pushing back the snow, opening the mouth of the drive where the town truck has walled it in, clearing walkways, and laying sand where a grade wants to throw a car sideways. The best part of the job is the part nobody sees: the drive is done, the truck is gone, and the first person up finds the way out already open. Storms come across the lake basins with wind behind them, and the round keeps going until the last dooryard is clear. Then the light comes up over the ice and the town gets on with its day.
