Storms come into Cambridge from the west, over the low ridges toward Ripley, and you can usually hear the wind change before the first flakes reach the dooryard. KCM Construction is out in it — plow down, headlights full of snow, working the long farm lanes and driveways that wind back off the town roads. The aim is simple and unglamorous: have it open before the school bus, before the first shift, before anyone has to think about it. By the time the sky goes pale over the fields, the banks are pushed back square and the turnaround is wide enough to swing a truck. That is the whole job, done again and again from the first squall in November to the last wet slab of March.
