Head north out of Bucksport on Route 15 and the town opens into fields and woodlots — ground that wants a machine with some reach behind it. Late fall is the pivot: the last mow, the leaves cleared off, then the equipment changes over and everyone starts watching the sky. Winter work is plowing driveways and yards down to a clean surface, opening the paths to the door, and sanding the pitch where a truck has to back out. When the ground lets go in April the mowing, trimming and edging begin again, and the cleanup work goes through everything the thaw left behind. Bucksport and the farm roads around it, in both seasons.
