Brunswick runs down to the water in one long quiet slope, and at Maquoit Bay the tide goes out so far the flats shine like pewter. A yard in that light asks to be composed rather than merely cut — beds shaped to the grade, lawn held as open space, edges drawn so the eye can rest. As a landscape design practice the day-to-day is still mowing, trimming and the seasonal cleanups that keep a design legible: the April rake-out, the summer rhythm, the leaves lifted in October so nothing smothers by December. Ground here holds salt air, granite and pine, and a lawn looks right when it agrees with all three. Brunswick and the peninsulas and river towns beside it.
