Granite runs close beneath everything in Brooklin, and after a heavy snowfall it is the ledges and stone steps that disappear first. St. Pierre Stone and Garden takes on snow removal in this harbor town, digging out drives, walks and entryways so the stone shows through again. Storms here often slip in at dusk, piling soft and thick on the boat sheds around Center Harbor until the whole cove goes hushed and white. The pleasure comes the next morning: a clean, deliberate line from road to door, steps swept bare, and the garden beds left resting beneath their blanket. Out at Naskeag Point the sea keeps its own counsel; up in the yard, the path is open.
