In July, Eggemoggin Reach fills with sails, and the lawns above it run right down to the granite. Flower Hounds Farm mows and trims and edges those Brooklin yards, out along Naskeag Point and back through Center Harbor where the boatyards are. Salt air, thin soil and ledge make for grass that has to be coaxed rather than commanded, so the mowing stays regular, the trimming is done close by hand around rock and post, and cleanups bracket the season. A dooryard cut tight to the ledge with the water going blue behind it is what the day is for. Brooklin is a small town that pays attention, and the lawns show it.
