Every May the alewives run up the Pemaquid River to the fish ladder at Bristol Mills, and the whole peninsula turns green in about ten days. Stackhouse Landscaping works that green, keeping grass cut, borders trimmed and edges crisp, along with the cleanup work that opens and closes the season. Salt fog rolls in off Johns Bay some mornings and leaves the lawns silver until nine o'clock. Cutting into that, and leaving behind straight lines and a tidy border, is about as satisfying as the trade gets. From New Harbor up to Bristol Mills the summer is short, and worth keeping sharp.
