After Columbus Day the peninsula empties out and Boothbay goes back to being a small town on a cold coast. Moxie Inc. is here for both parts of that — mowing, trimming and yard cleanups while the roads are full, plowing, shoveling and sanding once they are not. Winter comes off the water wet and heavy here, the kind of snow that bends the spruce and takes a second pass to move. Out around Knickerbocker Lake the driveways are long and the mornings are dark, and open is open. Boothbay and the towns down the peninsula, year round.
