Out at Biddeford Pool the wind arrives off open water with nothing to slow it, and a January storm can pack a driveway shut in an hour. A To Z Enterprises is out in the black part of the morning for exactly that reason — plow down, headlights full of snow, working toward the hour when people start their cars. The job is simple to describe and hard to do well: clear the drive wall to wall, cut back the ridge the city plow leaves at the road, open the walk to the door, put sand where boots will land. By sunrise the pavement is dark again and the banks stand square. That is the whole ambition, storm after storm, from the first sugary squall to the last heavy dump in March.
