On Beals the fog comes in over Moosabec Reach and takes the spruce down to shapes, and the lawns run right out to granite ledge and salt water. Downeast Land & Tree works that ground — mowing, trimming, edging and cleanups in the green season, then plowing, shoveling and sanding when the Reach is steaming with cold. Wind off the water shapes everything out here, so the work comes down to keeping ground open and passable: a drive cleared to the shore road, a yard cut back to its proper edges. Across the bridge in Jonesport and out toward Addison and Columbia Falls, the same hands cover both halves of the year. Island weather doesn't negotiate, and neither does the schedule.
