Albion keeps farm hours. The light comes up over hayfields and Fifteenmile Stream, and by the time the dew is off, On Point Lawn Care LLC already has the mower running. Out here the lots are wide and the neighbors are far apart, so a lawn is less a patch than a clearing held back from the woods — mown even, trimmed around the barn corners and mailbox posts, edged where the grass meets the dooryard gravel. Kennebec County summers run long and green and then quit all at once, which puts a real deadline on the fall raking. There is something plain and good about looking back down a finished field of lawn with the stripes running true toward the treeline.
