The Pleasant River empties out of Addison twice a day and leaves the flats shining, and the wind off it carries clear up to the blueberry barrens. AR Kennedy mows the yards in between — the ones along the river road, the ones out toward South Addison and Cape Split where the grass comes in thick and salt-fed. Weekly cuts, trimming close to posts and foundations, brush cut back off the drives, and cleanups at both ends of the season. Down East summers are brief and very bright, and a mowed dooryard makes the most of the light while it's here. Simple work with a plain result: a place that looks tended, right out to the edge of the field.
