Out past the Beltway, Westphalia still keeps the shape of farm country — long shoulders of grass, hedgerows going gold at the field edges, and new streets laid across ground that once grew tobacco. Field of Dreams Landscaping works those lawns from the first warm week of March, mowing in clean parallel passes and edging the walks until the line between turf and concrete is a drawn one. Summer comes up heavy and green off the Charles Branch bottomland, and a yard cut on schedule is the whole difference between a lawn and a thicket. Come December the same trucks turn to snow, plowing the driveways along Ritchie Marlboro Road and the cul-de-sacs off Westphalia Road before the buses roll. It is plain, satisfying work in a place that still smells like cut hay in June.
