The Stafford Farms

About The Stafford Farms

The first hard freeze finds the fields west of Sykesville already cut to stubble, the ground ringing under a tire. The Stafford Farms takes on snow removal across that open country toward Woodbine and Marriottsville, where wind keeps moving snow around long after the sky has cleared and a lane opened at four can drift shut by seven. So you go back out. Farm-country plowing is about the second pass and the third, about knowing which fence line loads up and which one stays bare all winter. There is a plain pleasure in a lane cut straight, banks squared off, and room enough to turn a truck at the end of it.
