When a nor'easter tracks up the coast, the lower Shore feels it first as wind off the marsh and then as a long night of wet snow going hard by morning. D.M. Taylor, Inc. runs against that clock — plowing lots down to pavement, stacking the piles where they won't block a sightline, salting the entrances and walkways that ice takes first. Flat ground is Salisbury's particular problem: the melt has nowhere to go, so what runs by afternoon is a sheet again at dawn, and the work gets checked and worked a second time. It's cold, unsociable, mostly-dark labor, and the reward arrives as the very ordinary sight of a full parking lot at eight in the morning. Nobody notices a cleared lot, which is precisely the point.
