The Hawlings is barely a river — a shallow, stone-bottomed run threading the meadows northeast of Olney, loud in spring and nearly silent by August. James Creek Lawn & Landscape works the yards that back up to country like that, where the mown grass ends and the tall grass begins and the line between them has to be drawn by hand. Mowing, trimming and edging carry the green months; leaf cleanup takes over when the sycamores go gold and drop everything at once. Then the same ground turns hard, and the crew comes back with plows and salt for the drives and the walks. One property, two very different halves of the year, tended without a gap in between.
