Interstate 70 carries a ceaseless river of traffic past Myersville, yet a block or two from the exit the town slows to the pace of a porch swing. Hervet Landworks cuts and tends lawns here, in a valley town whose western sky ends at South Mountain, where the Appalachian Trail follows the crest. In September the evenings cool, the grass finds its second wind, and a well-timed mowing with clean trimming along fences and beds keeps a yard looking sharp well into autumn. Edging along the walks and the driveway finishes the picture, a firm line that says the job is done.
