Out on Rumsey Island the lanes run narrow between the canals, and a few inches of snow can make every turn feel like a guess. GGS clears those driveways and walkways, plows the tight approaches, and salts the spots where wind off the water refreezes whatever the afternoon managed to loosen. Winter arrives in Joppatowne sideways more often than straight down — sleet, slush, a hard skim of ice by dark. The work is unglamorous and exact: push, scrape, scatter, then check the second entrance nobody remembers until they need it. Come evening the pavement is dark and gritty and safe, and the porch lights have something to shine on.
