About Marty Grows

Gilmore keeps to the floor of the Georges Creek valley, a small Allegany County place where ridges close in on both sides and the morning sun clears Dans Mountain late. Marty Grows takes care of lawns here, and the name says plainly what the business is after: grass that comes in thick and green in the creek-bottom soil. Summer mornings in the valley begin with mist lying low over the yards, and by noon a fresh mowing has left them striped and even. In a town shaped by the old coal-mining days, a well-kept lawn is a small, quiet sign of a place still tended and still loved.
