About Westerly Enterprises

Watch the sky over Seneca Creek in the hour before a big one and you can read the whole night ahead — flat pewter light coming down the Piedmont out of the west, the air gone still, the tulip poplars holding their breath above Clopper Lake. Westerly Enterprises keeps its eyes on that horizon and its trucks loaded before the first flake reaches Gaithersburg. Through the long middle of a storm the work is plowing lots and drives, cutting sidewalks and entryways open, and spreading ice melt again and again on the surfaces that refuse to stay clear. A lot pushed back to bare blacktop, curb to curb, before the first car of the morning turns in is a fair answer to any weather that came in overnight. There is satisfaction in the second and third pass, the ones nobody sees, that keep a place walkable while the storm is still arguing with the county.
