About Appalachian Landscape & Management

Catoctin Mountain runs north out of Thurmont like a long green wall, and everything below it — the yards, the fence lines, the pasture edges — takes its weather from that ridge. Appalachian Landscape & Management works the ground at the mountain's foot: mowing, edging, trimming, bed maintenance, and hauling off whatever the season drops. In October, when the ridge turns color and the wind funnels down through the gaps, the leaf work begins in earnest and does not let up until the oaks stand bare. There is a particular satisfaction in a lawn put to bed properly before the cold — clean, level, nothing left to mat down over winter. Come April the grass remembers the care and comes back thick.
