Some of the hardest nights here are not the snow nights — they are the ones that start as rain at thirty-four degrees and end with the sycamores along Bonnie Branch bent under glass. All the Trimmings runs winter work in Ellicott City through exactly those hours: plowing driveways and lots, clearing walks and steps by hand, putting salt where a slope and a shadow will hold ice past noon. Storms come in from the west with little warning and stall over the Patapsco valley, so the work stays watchful — out before the first inch sets, back again when wind fills the cut. The measure of the night is a door that opens onto a clear path at six in the morning and a car that climbs the hill without a second thought. By the time sun clears the ridge, the driveways look like ordinary driveways again, which is the entire point.
