About Shorescapes

Snow comes to Cambridge sideways, on a northwest wind that has crossed the whole cold width of the bay, and it usually comes at night. Shorescapes is built for those hours: the truck warm, the blade down, headlights carving through squalls while the rest of town sleeps with the porch light on. Shore snow is a sometime thing, which is precisely why it paralyzes — an inch here closes what a foot barely slows elsewhere — so the clearing has to be quick and complete, drives opened and walks cut through before morning. There is a particular hush after a plow pass, the scrape fading, the street suddenly navigable again. Delivering that hush, and the safe passage inside it, is the job.
