Brunswick wakes before its fog does — the first MARC train slides out along the river while the mist is still snagged in the sycamores, and Acer Landcare is often not far behind it. There is a rhythm to this railroad town, and a mowed lawn keeps time with it: straight lines up the hillside streets, edges squared against old brick walks. Spring reaches the valley floor a little sooner than it climbs the ridge, and the work follows it yard by yard. Mowing, trimming, and seasonal cleanups are the whole of it, done so a place looks cared for from the platform and from the porch alike. When the maples that gave the company its name turn scarlet above Potomac Street, the rakes come out and the season closes the way it opened — early, and in good order.
