October takes the Yarmouth oaks all at once, and for three weeks the yards near the Callery-Darling trails lie ankle-deep in brown and rust. Stick landscaping and fall cleanup exists for exactly that stretch: raking, blowing out beds and fence lines, hauling the piles away, and putting the grass to bed with one last low cut. The rest of the year it's weekly mowing, trimming and edging on the streets around Dennis Pond. Leaves left down mat and smother; leaves lifted mean a lawn that wakes up green. Walking back to the truck past a yard that's bare, swept and squared away in November is one of the better feelings on the Cape.
