Every spring the herring push up past the old Baxter mill on Mill Pond, and West Yarmouth takes that as the sign the year has restarted. Hohmann Landscaping restarts with it — spring cleanup, beds cut back and weeded, a first mow on lawns that have been waiting since November. From there the season becomes a weekly turn of mowing, trimming and edging, mulch laid in, shrubs kept off the windows. Seed and fertilizer go down wherever the Cape's thin soil needs the help. By fall the leaves are cleared and the whole property gets put to bed looking better than it started.
