Mass Bay Tree

About Mass Bay Tree

Winter storms track up the South Shore off the bay, and by the time they reach Whitman the snow is heavy and wet and serious about it. Mass Bay Tree turns to plowing then, running the town's driveways and lots through the small hours while the crossing gates on the commuter line stand empty and blinking. Wet snow asks for more passes and a steadier hand, and it gets both. Entryways are cleared down to the tread, sand goes wherever the ground slopes, and the piles get set where they will not block a sightline in the morning. Finishing a street at four a.m., every drive dark and open, is the part worth staying up for.
