Quintessential Gardens

About Quintessential Gardens

There is a particular stillness in a garden just pruned—the shrubs opened to light, the spent growth carried off, the beds edged clean against the lawn. That is the register Quintessential Gardens works in, tending coastal gardens across Westport, where the two branches of the river braid down toward Buzzards Bay and salt air keeps the low fields green past summer's end. From the first sketch of a design, through the stonework and outdoor rooms built to hold it, to the season-long care that keeps a container planting brimming, the work here follows the slow logic of things that grow. And when winter draws its line across the coast, the same hands clear snow from these same drives, so the place stays tended straight through the cold.
