The best part of a Westfield storm is its ending — wind dropping off the Berkshire foothills, the sky over the river going pale, and the whole city still under a blank sheet. Jibber Enterprises is out in that hour, plowing driveways down to pavement, cutting clean returns at the street, and salting the shaded stretches that never quite let go. The Whip City takes its snow in odd portions: heavy and wet down near the water, dry and drifting up on the higher ground. Walks get shoveled wide enough for two, and the pile goes where it will melt off instead of where it will refreeze. By the time the plow trucks have finished their rounds, people are stepping out onto ground that looks like ordinary pavement again.
