Lambert's Cove Road runs under an arch of oak and sassafras, and by June the light coming through it is green enough to swim in. Andrade's Landscaping tends the up-island yards along there — mowing, edging against the stone walls, trimming out the beds, carrying off the spring and fall cleanups. West Tisbury ground is sand and salt air, and grass here earns every inch it grows. Snow is rare enough on the Vineyard to feel like news, and when it does arrive the blade goes on and the driveways are opened before the island is properly awake. Then the thaw, the mud, and the long green stretch all over again.
