Winter comes to Pelham Island Road as a hush, the low fields west of the Sudbury going white and the way out toward Sherman's Bridge narrowing to two dark tire tracks. Maple Tree Landscape plows and shovels through those hours so the first person out at six finds pavement instead of a problem, with salt down where the shade keeps ice long past sunrise. Once April turns the ground, the same properties want the other half of the work: mowing, trimming, the winter's grit raked out of the turf and the beds opened up again. It makes one long circle of care around the same houses, twelve months at a time. The reward comes the morning after a storm, a quiet street, a cleared drive, nobody late.
