An excavating outfit reads ground for a living: its grades, its soft shoulders, the places meltwater will run in March. In Warwick, where Mount Grace stands over the northern woods and the wind arrives straight down from New Hampshire, Ed Matthew's Excavating turns that eye to snow removal. Drives here run a long way in and pitch hard, and the snow they collect does not leave until spring, so it has to be put in the right place the first time.
