By late September the white pines above Flint Pond start dropping needles onto every lawn within reach, and Tyngsborough begins its long orange-and-rust exhale. Environmental Gardens Inc reads that stretch as work waiting to be done: final mowings, trimming, leaf and needle cleanups, beds put down so the spring has somewhere clean to start. Much of this town is lawn edged against wetland and pine shade, which asks for a lighter hand and a sense of where water goes once a storm has passed. Done right, a yard here doesn't fight its surroundings — it opens into them, cut to a clear line and swept down to the soil.
