Spring arrives in Swansea by way of the Cole River, running loud at the dam while the rest of town is still brown. Clay's Property Maintenance meets it with rakes and mowers: winter debris hauled off, the first cut of the year, bed lines recut so a yard looks deliberate again. Summer settles into a rhythm of mowing, trimming and edging, the grass striped straight and the walk swept before the truck pulls away. When the cold turns everything quiet, those same driveways get plowed and the walkways shoveled and treated, often before the coffee has finished brewing inside. It is one long circle of care around a house, and it starts again at the river every March.
