The Quinebaug runs slow and green through Sturbridge, and in July the river fog lies in the low yards until nine in the morning. Anlawncare is out ahead of it, mowing while the grass still holds water and the day has not turned heavy. The work is the ordinary, satisfying kind — weekly cuts, trimming along fence lines and foundations, bed edging, mulch, the rake-out that opens the year and the one that closes it. Done right, a lawn in this valley stays even and dense all the way into October.
