About Thomas P. Ryland Co.

Weather comes down this valley from the north, past Mount Tom, and you can usually feel it a day early — the wind swings around and the light goes flat and pewter. Thomas P. Ryland Co. spends that evening staging: blades on, salt loaded, the route put in order before a flake falls. Then comes the long overnight of plowing Springfield driveways and lots, shoving the banks back, cutting walkways down to pavement. There is a particular kind of tired that arrives with sunrise after a storm, and a particular kind of pride that rides along with it. The pavement is bare, the doors open, and the city gets on with its day.
