Better Pathways

About Better Pathways

Snow arrives in Southampton quietly, sifting down across College Highway while most of the town is still asleep. Better Pathways is out in it early — blade down, headlights boring a tunnel through the falling white, driveways and walks opened before the first car backs out. There is a plain satisfaction in pavement taken all the way down to bare, and in sand laid exactly where a person's foot will land. Storms stack against the higher ground west of the village and keep giving all day, so the routes get run again, and again, until the sky finally quits. Come breakfast, Southampton's paths are simply there again, ready to be walked.
