About Marion Excavating Co., Inc.

Out where Bachelor Brook cuts through the fields, the farm roads run straight and the wind has nothing to slow it down once the snow starts drifting across them. Marion Excavating Co., Inc. plows that open country — long drives, farm and commercial yards, turnarounds and aprons — shoveling the walks by hand afterward and putting sand or salt down on the packed spots. Drifting is its own problem here; a lane cleared at midnight can close again by four, so you go back. There is a plain pleasure in a wide yard scraped clean with the banks squared off at the edges. By morning the fields are white and the pavement is black, exactly as it should be.
