About Brake & Clutch Inc.

Boston Street climbs out of Salem toward the Peabody line, and when a nor'easter is due the trucks at Brake & Clutch Inc. are already fueled and hooked, blades down in the dooryard under a sodium light. Plowing in this part of the city means lots and driveways that pitch every direction — hillside aprons, tight curb cuts, back entries where a drift builds against a fence overnight. The crew salts the shaded patch that never sees noon sun, then comes back around for the second push when the storm catches its second wind. Snow here arrives gray and stays a week, so the work is not only moving it but stacking it where it won't blind a driver backing out. The best mornings end with a lot swept to bare pavement and a row of curbs you can actually see.
