Rutland State Park holds a stand of tall pines just west of the center, and the yards near it live half in shade and half in open sun. Trees Unlimited mows those lawns to suit — a touch taller where the light is thin, worked carefully around trunks and surface roots, edged along the drives. April clearing pulls the needles and the winter mat off the turf; autumn clearing takes the leaves before they can smother it. A shaded lawn kept well is a quieter kind of green, and it is worth the extra trouble. Rutland has plenty of them.
